Born in Owosso, Michigan in 1955, Ray Kayanek has loved music and songwriting since his parents bought him his first guitar, a Harmony Stella 12-string, at age thirteen. He wrote his first song at age sixteen while traveling with a church musical group and actively wrote for about eight years. Upon graduation from Owosso High School, he attended Olivet Nazarene College (now University) and went on to attend Michigan State University from there. He got away fromt he church after college and moved to Florida, working night clubs, restaurants, etc. He married his wife Susan in 1991 and she gave him their son Cole in 1996. After moving around the southeastern U.S., they settled in St. Augustine, Florida, where they have lived since 1999. Ray found himself drawn back to the church and the roots of his faith in 2001 and immediately began writing again. He collaborated with some friends and collectively they have recorded over forty songs on several CDs. Ray has won several awards for his songwriting including being a finalist in the Gospel Music Association's Song of 2006 competition, and being awarded Runnerup in VH-1's song of 2006 November competition. Ray has one goal in his music...to write the best songs he can for God.
