"Distant Valentine's Day"
words & music by Ray Allen Kayanek

Debbie bought a Valentine
For her husband Jack
She hopes that it gets to him
Somewhere in Iraq
How Desperately she misses him
More and more each day
If she could only tell him
This is what she'd say

(chorus)
Though you're so far away
In a dangerous place
Our love still connects
Across time and space
The only reason I need
To wake up every day
Is to know that you love me
Happy Valentine's Day

Soldiers fighting bravely
Are the reason I'm so blessed
I'm free because the willingly
Have risen to the test
If you appreciate their sacrifice
Please join me as I pray
That God won't make them spend
Another distant Valentine's Day

(chorus)

It must be really hard on your heart
This distant Valentine's Day
You and your loved one half of a world apart
This distant Valentine's Day

How hard it must be
To be so far away
From the one that you love
This distant Valentine's Day
Your country is behind you
As you open the door
To that better tomorrow
That you're fighting for

Operation Valentine

Cross Eyed Music is partnering with the USO and our local military bases to honor our troops on Valentine's Day this year. This effort is being called Operation Valentine

Imagine how difficult it must be, on the day that celebrates being close to the one you love, to be a half a world apart, walking in harms way. Imagine how difficult it must be to know that the one you love walks a path of danger on this day. I was thinking such thoughts when I wrote "Distant Valentine's Day." I asked Twila Powers to sing it because her husband is in the military and I knew she would bring the appropriate emotional accompaniment in addition to her beautiful voice.

Take a listen below

We here at Cross Eyed Songs would like to help bridge that gap a little. We have put together a beautiful Valentine, which through the USO we are offering to the spouses or significant others of our troops. We will allow them to personalize the card, we'll enclose a complimentary copy of the Distant Valentine's Day CD and we'll mail it to our troops. We will also offer a complementary copy of the CD to the spouses or significant others. We are doing this at no cost to them or the USO.

If you would like to partner with us in this cause, a contribution or $10 will send one Operation Valentine package to one soldier. You can send check or money order made payable to Cross Eyed Songs to:
